WANTED: Nominations for Edmonton’s Outstanding Neighbours
February 15, 2012
Good Neighbour Award nominations now open
Recognize the neighbour who makes your community a better place by nominating them for a Good Neighbour Award.
The 5th annual Good Neighbour Awards, a partnership between the City of Edmonton, REALTORS Association of Edmonton and Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues, officially opened nominations with the help of Councillor Amarjeet Sohi, program partners and a Good Neighbour Award recipient.
“It's often the small gestures and actions that improve our lives, communities and neighbourhoods,” said Councillor Sohi. “These awards are a way to show our appreciation for Edmontonians who strive to create caring and connected communities.”
A Good Neighbour Award will be given to 1 outstanding individual, couple or family from each of the City’s 12 wards.
For the first time, a Neighbourhood Achievement award will recognize one group city-wide for making a difference to the community.
“I was humbled after receiving recognition from my neighbours for lending a hand,” said, Graham Olmstead, Ward three winner from 2011 Good Neighbour Awards. “I always say helping out is what neighbours are for.”
Edmontonians are encouraged to nominate someone making a difference in their community. Eligible contenders may include:
- The neighbour who watches your young ones after school until you get home from work.
- The youth who mows your lawn or shovels your driveway, just because.
- The local business owner who organizes community events and knows everyone by name.
Regardless of season or action, good neighbours add vibrancy to neighbourhoods and deserve recognition. Nominate your neighbour by completing a nomination form by March 31, 2012. Fill out and submit your nomination online at edmonton.ca/goodneighbours or pick up a hard copy of the nomination form at an Edmonton pubic library or at the Citizen and New Arrival information desk in City Hall.
All winners will be recognized at the Good Neighbour Awards celebration on May 15 as part of Connections 2012, an event connecting Edmontonians to City programs, projects and services that help make neighbourhoods great.
The Good Neighbour Awards are part of the City of Edmonton Great Neighbourhoods initiative. Working to improve the livability of Edmonton's neighbourhoods and the lives of the people who live, work, and visit in them, the City is investing in the physical and social infrastructure of neighbourhoods, building community capacity and coordinating the delivery of City services more efficiently.
